Anurag Kashyap criticizes Bollywood’s high-ticket prices: “Doesn’t matter if you made RRR”

en Bollywood News Anurag Kashyap criticizes Bollywood’s high-ticket prices: “Doesn’t matter if you made RRR”

The filmmaker compares pricing practices in Hindi and Telugu film industries.

Anurag Kashyap, known for his candid opinions on the Indian film industry, recently spoke about the unaffordable ticket prices for Hindi films. In an interview with Humans of Cinema, Kashyap compared ticket pricing in Bollywood to the more affordable and fixed rates in the Telugu film industry. He noted, “There is a ceiling for ticket prices in Telugu. Regardless of how massive your film is, a luxury seat cannot cost more than Rs. 250. You can’t price your tickets higher than that. It doesn’t matter if you’ve made RRR or a small, independent film. We spend unnecessarily, which is being corrected now.”

Kashyap highlighted the impact of high-ticket prices on smaller films, explaining, “When you have more money, you tend to spend more on marketing, and this puts pressure on smaller films. This is why they aren’t able to compete in this ecosystem.” He emphasized that excessive spending on marketing by big-budget films makes it difficult for independent films to survive.

Anurag Kashyap made his directorial debut with Paanch, which was never released. His second film, Black Friday, faced delays due to its depiction of the 1993 Mumbai blasts and the socio-political atmosphere of that time. Kashyap gained fame with movies such as Dev D, Gulaal, Gangs of Wasseypur, Mukkabaaz, Manmarziyaan, and Dobaara. He was also praised for his crime series Sacred Games, based on Vikram Chandra's novel, featuring a star-studded cast including Saif Ali Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and Radhika Apte.

Kashyap's next film, Kennedy, is a crime-thriller starring Rahul Bhat, Sunny Leone, and Abhilash Thapliayal. The movie screened at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival 2023 and few other festivals, continuing Kashyap's tradition of creating thought-provoking and impactful cinema.
