Veteran actor Arvind Vaidya, who is widely recognised by younger audiences for playing Bapuji in the ongoing Star Plus serial Anupamaa, was conferred with the prestigious Padma Shri award by President Droupadi Murmu on May 25 in New Delhi. The celebrated actor was honoured for his significant contribution to the field of arts, particularly Gujarati theatre, Hindi television and cinema.
A video from the ceremony, shared by the Press Information Bureau of India, captured a heartwarming moment where Arvind Vaidya was seen warmly greeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi before proceeding to the stage to receive the honour from the President.

Known for his decades-long contribution to performing arts, Arvind Vaidya has remained a respected name in Gujarati theatre while also making a mark on television and films. Over the years, he has earned appreciation for his versatile performances and dedication to the craft.
Interestingly, the news of the honour was first shared months ago by his daughter, actor Vandana Pathak, through an emotional social media post. Celebrating her father’s achievement, Vandana had shared several candid photographs from his personal life and penned a heartfelt note for him. “From Shri Arvind Vaidya to Padma Shri Arvind Vaidya. Congratulations to my dad, my hero, my first teacher, my inspiration and my superstar,” she had written.

The announcement had received immense love and congratulatory messages from colleagues and friends from the entertainment industry. Several of Arvind Vaidya’s Anupama co-stars, including Shivam Khajuria, Jaswir Kaur and Ashlesha Sawant, reacted warmly to the post. Celebrities such as JD Majethia and Manasi Parekh also congratulated the veteran actor on the prestigious recognition.
With the Padma Shri honour, Arvind Vaidya’s contribution to Indian performing arts has now received one of the country’s highest civilian recognitions, further cementing his legacy in theatre and entertainment.
