Anupam Kher had a positive 2022. It started off with The Kashmir Files, which became one of the biggest Bollywood hits. He was next seen in Karthiyeka 2. Although he had a cameo, it turned out to be a memorable scene. At the end of the year, Kher successfully reunited with filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya with Uunchai, which also starred Amitabh Bachchan, Boman Irani and Danny Denzongpa.
It looks like the veteran actor has started this year on a positive note too. Kher’s Netflix series Trial By Fire received a lot of acclaim and so did his character Captain Hardeep Bedi. His feature film Shiv Shastri Balboa received rave reviews. And now, his latest show again on Netflix titled New Amsterdam has also opened to a positive response.
Throwing more light on the show, Kher’s publicist said in a statement, “The American medical drama, New Amsterdam, just made its streaming debut in India last week on Netflix and the show has been trending on the platform already. The show depicts the day-to-day working of a public hospital named New Amsterdam in New York, while also showing the life of the staff working there.” Kher plays the character of Dr Vijay Kapoor in the show.
During an exclusive chat with Bollywood Hungama at the end of last year, Kher looked back at the year and said that it’s not good to put labels on actors. “People put actors in slots. They say this person isn’t a hero and that person is a character actor. The whole definition of an actor in India is different. This is a wake-up call in the sense that we should believe that if we work hard, toh kuchh bhi ho sakta hai, which is my favourite proverb. The lesson we get from here is – break the stereotypes,” he said.
