In a deeply emotional tribute, Amitabh Bachchan remembered his longtime friend and Sholay co-star Dharmendra following the veteran actor’s death. Writing on his blog, Bachchan expressed the magnitude of his loss, “Another valiant Giant has left us, left the arena, leaving behind a silence with an unbearable sound.”

He praised Dharmendra not just for his imposing screen presence, but for his warmth and humility. “Dharam ji, the epitome of greatness, ever linked not only for his renowned physical presence, but for the largeness of his heart, and its most endearing simplicity. He brought with him the earthiness of the village in Punjab he came from, and remained true to its temperament, unsoiled throughout his glorious career, in a fraternity that witnessed changes every decade.”
He added, “The fraternity underwent changes, not him. His smile, his charm and his warmth, extending to all that came in his vicinity, a rarity in the profession.”
The two actors first worked together in Dost (1974), before their legendary pairing in Chupke Chupke and Sholay (1975). Their on-screen chemistry endured over the years through films like Naseeb, Ram Balram, and Hum Kaun Hain.
Dharmendra passed away on November 24 at his home in Juhu, after battling ill health. He was 89 years old.
