Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who continues to be a reigning icon on the Cannes red carpet, took to Instagram to drop key moments from her recent outing at the 78th Cannes Film Festival. The video, originally shared by designer Manish Malhotra and reposted by Aishwarya, offers fans a closer look at the stunning details and craftsmanship behind her white Banarasi saree look that wowed on the international stage.
While Aishwarya Rai captioned the post with multiple hashtags, Manish Malhotra penned a heartfelt note celebrating Indian heritage saying, “It’s Always a Honour to Present Handwoven Made in India Saree on a Global Platform @festivaldecannes and who better than the Original Indian Queen at Cannes the very beautiful @aishwaryaraibachchan_arb and presenting our Special Ruby s to style the Elegant look .. #mymmsaree @manishmalhotrajewellery @manishmalhotraworld”.

Aishwarya’s look was centered around a handwoven Kadwa ivory Banarasi saree, crafted using the centuries-old Kadwa brocade technique from Varanasi. The fabric featured detailed handwoven brocade motifs and hand-embroidered zari work using real silver (chandi). She paired the saree with a sheer white tissue dupatta, edged in zardozi embroidery done in real gold and silver—an ensemble that beautifully merged tradition with red carpet elegance. Taking the grandeur a notch higher was the actress’s high jewellery by Manish Malhotra Jewellery, which included over 500 carats of Mozambique rubies and uncut diamonds set in 18k gold. The ruby statement rings completed the look, making it a celebration of Indian craftsmanship on a global platform.

The video shared on social media not only highlights the final red-carpet appearance but also gives fans a rare peek into the extensive prep that went into curating this couture moment—one that redefined what Indian ceremonial dress can signify at an event as prestigious as Cannes.
In another notable look from the festival, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan walked the red carpet in a dramatic black gown by Gaurav Gupta, paired with a beige Banarasi cape—once again paying homage to Indian textiles while embracing modern silhouettes. The designer too dropped another Cannes video of the BTS of creating the couture on social media, earlier this week.
