Agastya Nanda was unaware of grandfather Amitabh Bachchan’s stardom; admired Abhishek Bachchan: “My mamu has genuinely been my hero growing up”

en Bollywood News Agastya Nanda was unaware of grandfather Amitabh Bachchan’s stardom; admired Abhishek Bachchan: “My mamu has genuinely been my hero growing up”

Agastya Nanda, the scion of the illustrious Bachchan family, marked his acting debut in Zoya Akhtar's musical The Archies, embodying the role of Archie Andrews. Born to Shweta Bachchan Nanda and Nikhil Nanda, and grandson to Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan, Agastya initially perceived his grandfather as just that, a grandfather, during his upbringing in Delhi. It was during school visits that he encountered the fervour surrounding the iconic Amitabh Bachchan. Despite that, Agastya's uncle, Abhishek Bachchan, was his idol, while he was growing up due to his movies like Guru, Dhoom franchise etc.

During an interview with Film Companion, the actor said, “Weirdly, I don’t see him as Amitabh Bachchan the superstar, no matter how many fans will mob him, I genuinely see him as my nana. My mamu has genuinely been my hero growing up. Our generation grew up watching Dhoom, Housefull, and Guru. These are our films. My mamu was my hero, when I saw Dhoom, I was like, ‘Oh my God those bikes’. My nana was a generation ahead, so I didn’t grow up watching him. I grew up watching mamu, so I was a bigger fan of his, and still am.”

When asked if his uncle gives him advice, he said, “Luckily, my mamu loves giving gyaan, it is his favourite thing. He can give you gyaan about anything. I just have to sit and wait, and it will come. But it is helpful, I do listen to it and take what works for me.”

Furthermore, talking about Amitabh Bachchan, he said, “The way my family has been, they don’t bring work home. My nana never spoke about work at home. So, I found it very normal. I thought, ‘Okay, he’s a normal granddad,’ but I only realised when he came to school on the annual day that, ‘Oh god, he is someone.’ It was so normal up till then. We would have grandparents' day in school in Delhi. When he’d show up, everyone would go crazy and I just couldn’t understand why everyone was going crazy. That’s when I realised. And then, of course, when I started watching cinema, I was like, ‘Okay, he’s kind of good at this.”

Meanwhile, on the work front, Agastya Nanda will next star in Sriram Raghavan’s Ikkis alongside Jaideep Ahlawat and Dharmendra.
