Aditya Roy Kapur reveals why he did Gumraah, “It wasn’t just a double role…”

Aditya Roy Kapur talks about his upcoming film Gumraah. It is slated to release in cinemas on April 7, 2023.

Bollywood actor Aditya Roy Kapoor is currently gearing up for his next project Gumraah opposite Mrunal Thakur. He will be seen playing a double role in the film. Gumraah is inspired by the Tamil film Thadam. Helmed by debutant director Vardhan Ketkar, the film is being produced by Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series and Murad Khetani’s Cine1 Studios. It is slated to release in cinemas on April 7, 2023. In a latest interview, Aditya spoke about why he decided to do Gumraah and how he prefers to use social media.

Aditya made his acting debut in 2009. However, his 2013 film Aashiqui 2 alongside Shraddha Kapoor shot him to fame. Highlighting the point that he has taken several breaks between his films, Aditya told Indian Express, “Over the years, I have realised I want to do more work. I enjoy being on set a lot, I love it. That’s probably one of my favourite places to be. So, my learning is to try and do more of it and not take big gaps. I’m not necessarily really productive in those gaps, I’d rather work more I guess.”

The actor explained that Gumraah gave him the opportunity to play double role, something he had never done before, when asked why he decided to take the part. He said, “I love this genre when I have to watch a film. So, when this film came to me, I was drawn to the story, the plot, all the twists and turns. When you feel like the film is two steps ahead of you and you are constantly trying to think and wonder… I felt like it had all those ingredients. The added bonus was it has a double role, something that I have never done before. But it wasn’t just a double role, it was a double role that was well written. It feels like two different people and a good challenge, so it all felt right.”

Aditya has a great social media fan base, but he claims that he doesn't allow the attention to influence him and prefers to keep the majority of his life “under wraps.” He said, “I keep most things under wraps. I guess I have always been that way, (I am) always private. For me, being a part of social media happened recently, not too recently but I was late to the party. Even then for a while I was posting very rarely, now during (film) release I get really excited and post a little more but then for two-three months I’ll not post anything. I don’t necessarily share very much of my personal life and space.”

Apart from Gumraah, Aditya also has Anurag Basu’s Metro In Dino with an ensemble cast.
