Filmmaker Aditya Datt continues to draw creative inspiration from his grandfather, the late lyricist Anand Bakshi, through a daily ritual he follows while working on his upcoming project Gunmaaster G9.

Before beginning his shoot each day, Datt turns to what he calls his “Anand Bakshi Jukebox” an old iPod loaded with over 5,000 songs written by the veteran lyricist. The playlist, he says, functions as a mood-setting tool aligned with the day’s filming requirements. “Every morning before a shoot, I listen to his songs depending on the tone of the scenes I’m filming that day,” Datt said.
For romantic sequences, he revisits classics such as Main Shayar Toh Nahin, Tujhe Dekha Toh Yeh Jaana Sanam, and Chandni, O Meri Chandni. When scenes require emotional depth, he turns to tracks like Chingari Koi Bhadke and others that help him access the desired sensitivity. For action-heavy portions, however, the filmmaker shifts to techno and trance music to build energy and pace.
Datt also recalled an early experience that shaped his understanding of storytelling, stemming from an interaction with Bakshi. “The day I told him I wanted to do something in the film industry, he didn’t respond directly. Instead, he took a test without giving me a heads-up,” he said.
As part of this, Bakshi had him sit through a script narration of a film featuring Ajay Devgn. Days later, during a family dinner, he asked Datt to recount the entire story. “He wanted to see if I was really paying attention, if I had the passion, and what kind of storytelling ability I had. That moment stayed with me,” Datt added.
On Bakshi’s death anniversary on March 30, the filmmaker’s routine reflects a continuing personal and creative connection to the lyricist’s legacy.
