Abhishek Bachchan reveals details about Amitabh Bachchan's adrenaline-fueled Sholay and Deewar shoot!

In a recent roundtable discussion, actor Abhishek Bachchan shared his thoughts on the film industry and how it has changed in the two-plus decades. During the chat, he candidly shared a story, which his father and actor Amitabh Bachchan once told him. Jr Bachchan recalled Amitabh telling him about juggling multiple shoots at the same time, and how he was able to pull it off.

Speaking at the Galatta Plus Hindi actors roundtable, Abhishek asserted, “I was doing double shifts early in my career, and I was tired one day and went home early in the morning. He was having his breakfast, ready to leave. He said, ‘How was it?’ I said I was very tired.”

He further added, “Very casually, he said, ‘We used to do a lot of this. I was shooting Sholay about an hour’s drive from Bengaluru, where the Ramgarh set was. We would shoot all day, I would pack up, take an hour’s drive to Bengaluru airport, take a flight to Mumbai, go straight to Ballard pier, where we were shooting the climax of Deewaar. I would shoot all night, come back home, take a shot of adrenaline, fly back to Bengaluru the next morning and shoot all day’. He did this for a month.”

For the unversed, Deewaar was directed by Yash Chopra, and Sholay was directed by Ramesh Sippy.

Interestingly, it reminds us of when Amitabh was juggling the shoot between Kaun Banega Crorepati 11 and Gulabo Sitabo. In one of his blogs he had written, “And another day cometh to an end .. a day off from the prosthetics on legal account , but driven by work on another prospect .. the KBC promo .. that shall al begin by August 1st week ..till the morrow and the back to the grind of GS .. Gulabo Sitabo ..the greens shall be reduced to the actual set .. modern day filming conducts itself thus.”

Coming to the professional front, Senior Bachchan is currently seen in the 15th season of Kaun Banega Crorepati. Speaking of his big-screen projects, he has multiple ventures in his kitty, including Section 84 and Kalki 2898 AD.
