Abhishek Bachchan is revisiting a defining phase of his career, shedding light on the choices that set him apart in an industry often driven by box office rankings and star hierarchies. In a candid conversation with Lilly Singh on her podcast Shame Less With Lilly Singh, the actor spoke about embracing roles that resonated with him rather than chasing the elusive ‘number one’ spot.

Reflecting on films like Dhoom, Bluffmaster, and Dus, Abhishek addressed the recurring “chill guy” persona that audiences have come to associate with some of his most memorable performances. When Lilly Singh pointed out this pattern, the actor responded with a perspective that highlighted his approach to the craft.
“We forget as film actors, especially in our industry, an actor should have the liberty to choose work that attracts them. Not what is expected for them to be the number one actor. It is an art form. We forget that. And in essence, you do films that you're inspired by or drawn to. That connect with you. So I guess the answer to your question is the kind of person that I am, I think these subjects just kind of vibed with me, you know? I'm like, okay, I get this guy. I get this guy. I like what he's trying to do and say. I like what the director's trying to do. So I just kind of gravitated towards that.”
His response offers a refreshing take on success in Bollywood, where actors are often judged by their commercial standing. Instead of following a calculated path, Abhishek revealed that his decisions were largely instinct-driven, guided by a personal connection to the characters and stories he chose to be part of.
Over the years, this approach has resulted in a filmography that stands out for its variety and individuality. Whether it was playing a suave cop in Dhoom or a witty conman in Bluffmaster, the actor brought a certain understated confidence to his roles—one that didn’t rely on loud heroism but instead on nuance and relatability.
In an industry where larger-than-life personas often dominate the screen, Abhishek Bachchan’s reflections underline a different kind of journey—one rooted in authenticity and creative satisfaction. His words serve as a reminder that sometimes, choosing what feels right as an artist can be more meaningful than chasing conventional markers of success.
