Filmmaker Abhinav Kashyap, who directed Salman Khan in the 2010 blockbuster Dabangg, has once again stirred conversations with his remarks about the superstar. In a recently resurfaced interview with the Indian Express’ Screen, the director claimed that Malaika Arora had creative differences with Salman Khan regarding her costumes in the iconic song 'Munni Badnaam Hui.'

According to Kashyap, both Salman and his brother Arbaaz Khan were “conservative Muslims” and initially hesitant about Malaika’s appearance in the item number. “Malaika also had her own differences with Salman over her outfits. They want their women covered up. So, they didn’t want her to do the item song,” Kashyap said. He further recalled Malaika defending her choice, telling Salman that the performance was “nothing vulgar, just dancing only, and it’s all family around in the song.” The track eventually went on to become a chartbuster and remains one of Bollywood’s most celebrated item songs.

This is not the first time such revelations about Salman’s views on women’s attire have surfaced. Earlier in 2023, Palak Tiwari, during the promotions of Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, shared her experience of working as an assistant director on Antim: The Final Truth. She mentioned that Salman had a guideline on sets that women should dress modestly, particularly keeping their necklines higher. The statement sparked widespread debate, after which Palak clarified in a conversation with ETimes that her words had been “misunderstood.” She explained that the guideline was more of a personal choice she made out of respect for senior colleagues, including Salman, whom she had grown up admiring.

On the work front, Salman Khan continues to balance television and film projects. He is currently hosting the 19th season of Bigg Boss and has begun shooting for Battle of Galwan, directed by Apoorva Lakhia, in Ladakh.
