Abhijeet Sawant, who was declared the winner of the first season of Indian Idol in 2005, has reacted to Amit Sana's allegations that the show was rigged. Sana, who was the runner-up of the show, claimed that his voting lines were blocked two days before the finale, which helped Sawant win the competition.
Abhijeet Sawant calls Amit Sana “Naive” over Indian Idol rigging claims: “There are several reasons why you lose”
Sawant called Sana's claims "unfair" and said that he should focus on his future rather than dwelling on the past. "He is very naive. I have been to many competitions. There are several reasons why you lose a competition. It is not just one thing. He should not forget that he was the runner-up. It wasn't like we both were the only talented boys in the show, there were several other talented people in that competition," Sawant told News18 Showsha.
Sawant also said that he believes Sana's allegations were made by his friends or family, and that they are merely expressing their own opinions. He added that the show was being monitored by an international team and that it would have been impossible to rig the results.
This is not the first time that Sawant's Indian Idol win has been questioned. In the past, there have been allegations that the show was rigged in his favour. However, Sawant has always maintained that he won the competition fair and square.
"I find it unfair to discuss such matters now," Sawant said of Sana's allegations. He concluded by saying that such discussions almost two decades after the show make "no sense".
