Actor Aayush Sharma recently opened up about the initial resistance he faced from his family when he decided to marry Arpita Khan, sister of Salman Khan. The couple tied the knot in 2014, even before Aayush made his Bollywood debut.
In a recent interaction with Cyrus Broacha, Aayush recalled that his relationship with Arpita began as a friendship when both were seeing other people. Over time, after their respective breakups, they grew closer. He revealed that things moved quickly when Arpita expressed her desire to get married, leaving him to figure out how to approach both families. Sharing his dilemma at the time, Aayush said, “I didn’t know myself, how could I have told my parents? I just walked in, said hi, was asked if I will marry her and I said yes.” He added, “I walked out knowing that I am getting married in a year. I had no idea where life had taken me.”
He also spoke about his own insecurities during that phase, as he had not yet established himself professionally. “I wasn’t making any money. I always wondered what they were thinking. In films, the boy is always asked what he earns. Who gets their daughter or sister married to someone like me?” he admitted. Revealing his parents’ reaction, Aayush said his family was taken aback by the news. “My mom asked if she was Salman’s sister. I told my dad she was my girlfriend. He said, ‘Uski behen tere saath kya kar rahi hai?’ and then I told him we are getting married. He was shocked,” he recalled.
Despite the initial hesitation from his side of the family, Aayush shared that Salman Khan was supportive of their relationship. Over time, both families came around, and the couple went on to build a stable marriage, now raising two children together.
