“Aap sote kab hai, Devendra Fadnavis ji?”: Aamir Khan recalls having a meeting with Maharashtra Chief Minister at 3 am: “We reached his office at 1 am and waited for 2 hours watching FIFA World Cup”

Aamir Khan said, “I have known Devendra ji for 10-11 years. I have immense respect for him, having worked closely with him. We were fortunate and privileged to have a leader like Devendra ji in Maharashtra.”

He then told Devendra Fadnavis, “You work day and night. Our scheduled meetings of Paani Foundation take place in the day. But for emergency meetings, when I call Devendra ji, he tells me, ‘Aa jaao raat ko 1 baje’! Once, Satyajit Bhatkal and I reached his office at 1 am. His meeting was going on. That was the time of the Football World Cup. We were asked to be seated in a room. Wahan humne World Cup aaram se dekha! At 3 am, his meeting was done and he met us. Toh aap sote kab hai, Devendra ji (smiles)?”

Devendra Fadnavis smiled and answered, “I sleep late and I also wake up late. Jaldi uthne waala aadmi nahin hoon main. However, you also work equally hard, especially for the Paani Foundation. You have set an example. You have enlightened the rural community and empowered them to be agents of change. I respect that from the bottom of my heart.”

Both then went on to have a long, in-depth conversation about AI, climate change, AQI and much more.

Vicky Kaushal, Ashok Saraf honoured

Meanwhile, Vicky Kaushal was honoured for his role in Chhaava (2025). Kids dressed as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the character Vicky played in the blockbuster, accompanied him on stage.

He spoke in chaste Marathi and began by saying, “Namaskar to everyone. The host remarked that I am not a Maharashtrian. But my janmabhoomi as well as karmabhoomi is Maharashtra!”

His statement led to applause. He continued, “‘Maharashtrian Of The Year’ is not just an award. It is the blessings of the people of Maharashtra. Chhaava is closest to my heart. Playing the role of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj was a huge responsibility. Patience, responsibility, pride – I understood the true meaning of these words, thanks to this film. I’d like to give credit to the whole team of Chhaava, especially director Laxman Utekar and producer Dinesh Vijan. However, I’d like to dedicate this award to Maharashtra and every single Marathi person in the world.”

The last award of the day was given to Ashok Saraf. When the veteran actor came on stage to accept the ‘Jeevan Gaurav’ award, there was a standing ovation. Both Vicky and Ashok were felicitated by Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde, and others.
