In the 2013 blockbuster Dhoom 3, Aamir Khan portrayed the enigmatic antagonist, Sahir, captivating audiences with his multifaceted performance. One of the film's standout moments is a tap dance sequence that not only showcased Khan's versatility but also became a point of creative deliberation between him and producer Aditya Chopra.
Aamir Khan’s Tap Dance Training Journey
Aamir Khan, known for his dedication to authenticity, was intrigued by tap dancing and had been practicing it as a personal interest. Upon learning of this, Chopra and director Vijay Krishna Acharya saw an opportunity to incorporate this unique dance form into the film. However, Khan was initially hesitant, concerned about the seamless integration of tap dance into the narrative of an action thriller. To prepare for the role, Khan underwent rigorous training under the guidance of Australian choreographer Dein Perry, renowned for his work in Happy Feet 2 and the Sydney Olympics opening act. Khan even traveled to Australia to learn the 'grungy tap' style, a high-energy variant of traditional tap dance, practicing alongside Perry's students aged between 10 and 24.
The resulting performance not only enriched Sahir's character but also added a distinctive flair to the film, blending the art of tap dance with Bollywood's dynamic storytelling.
