But she made a lot of heads turn because of her performance too. Following this movie, she worked hard on her body and surprised everyone with her transformation. Dum Laga Ke Haisha (2015)

In her debut film, Bhumi Pednekar portrayed the character of Sandhya Verma, an overweight but confident woman who challenges societal norms. Her portrayal earned widespread acclaim and even won her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. The film, which was directed by Sharat Kataria, also became a surprise hit.

Shubh Mangal Saavdhan (2017)

In this romantic comedy, Bhumi Pednekar played the role of Sugandha, a young woman dealing with her fiancé's erectile dysfunction. Her performance was lauded for its authenticity and comedic timing. The movie was also praised for its mature portrayal of a problem that one doesn’t discuss openly.

Saand Ki Aankh (2019)

Bhumi, along with Taapsee Pannu, portrayed the real-life characters of Chandro Tomar and Prakashi Tomar, respectively, in this biographical film about two elderly women sharpshooters. Her portrayal was hailed for its of resilience and determination. More importantly, Bhumi, along with Taapsee, was convincing during scenes involving rifle shooting.

Sonchiriya (2019)

In this gritty dacoit drama by Abhishek Chaubey set in the Chambal valley, Bhumi Pednekar played the role of Indumati Tomar, a woman caught in the midst of violence and rebellion. Her performance was praised for its intensity and rawness. There were various moments in the film where Bhumi displayed her acting prowess, despite the presence of an ensemble cast of Sushant Singh Rajput, Ashutosh Rana, Ranveer Shorey, Manoj Bajpayee, among others.

Bhakshak (2024)

Directed by Pulkit and produced under Shah Rukh Khan’s banner Red Chillies Entertainment, Bhakshak was inspired from the real-life horrific incident of rape and sexual harassment at a girls’ shelter home at Muzaffarpur. The movie needed a bravura performance from the protagonist so as to create an impact and that is exactly what Bhumi did here.
