5 years ago, the digital industry in India got a major boost with the release of Sacred Games’ first season (2018). The Netflix series, starring Saif Ali Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Kubbra Sait and Rajshri Deshpande, became a rage thanks to its plot, subject, treatment and characters. For Kubbra, Sacred Games became a landmark project in her career. She played the role of the transgender Kuku effortlessly, for which she got immense praise from all quarters.

In her autobiography, 'Open Book: Not Quite A Memoir', Kubbra has extensively written about her experience of working on Sacred Games. She stated that on her first day of the shoot, she arrived and was happy to learn that she had her own vanity van. Make-up artist Anil Sable, who excels at prosthetic make-up and who has worked earlier on films like Bhoot (2003) and Sanju (2008), did her garish make-up, as per the character requirement. Her hair was done next after which she wore the sequined party outfit.

Finally, she was given to wear a prosthetic penis. Kubbra Sait called it “my crowning glory” and “The hero of this ensemble, one that I was eager to get a first look at”. She also described that it was wrapped in a green plastic bag in a transparent box.

Kubbra then revealed, “I was given skin-coloured underwear that had holes in the crotch area which was marked with green crosses. (I was told the crosses were a technical necessity to help ‘edit’ the prosthetic penis in the post-production phase.)”

An AD then asked her whether she would wear 'it' at that moment. An excited Kubbra Sait nodded. Kubbra was asked to take the production car but she chose to walk instead. She wrote, "I took mincing steps, careful not to jostle my penis."
