In the last many years, it has never happened that all the top actors of Bollywood would have a theatrical release in a year. However, the unthinkable is all set to happen in 2022. If all goes well, each one of them would have at least one release, with some actors like Akshay Kumar would be seen in multiple films.
NOTE – Only confirmed releases have been considered. While the web series of the actors have been excluded, their digital films have been included.
1. SHAH RUKH KHAN
2022 releases: Pathan, Tiger 3 (in a supporting role)
2023 releases: Atlee's untitled next, Rajkumar Hirani's untitled next
The superstar will end his three-year-plus hiatus with Pathan, a film that carries solid buzz. It is expected to release during Diwali and trade expects it to break box office records. Fans would also get a chance to see him in his Pathan avatar in Tiger 3, starring Salman Khan, albeit in a supporting role.
2. SALMAN KHAN
2022 releases: Tiger 3, Pathan (in a supporting role)
2023 releases: Pavanputra Bhaijaan, No Entry sequel (expected), Kabhi Eid Kabhi Diwali (expected)
Salman Khan has been loved in the Tiger franchise and this year, he’ll be seen in not one but two films in the same avatar. While he’ll have a supporting part in SRK’s Pathan, he’ll rock the show in a full-fledged role in Tiger 3.
3. AAMIR KHAN
2022 release: Laal Singh Chaddha
The box office king will finally release his saga, Laal Singh Chaddha, on April 14. It clashes with KGF 2 that too in the Ramzan period and it’ll be interesting to see whether it manages to emerge as the highest grosser of the year, like most of Aamir's films.
4. AKSHAY KUMAR
2022 releases: Prithviraj, Bachchan Pandey, Raksha Bandhan, OMG Oh My God 2, Ram Setu, Cinderella (tentative title)
2023 release: Gorkha, Selfiee
The superstar had one (digital) release in the pandemic in 2020 (Laxmii) and had two theatrical releases in 2021, namely Bellbottom and Sooryavanshi and one digital release (Atrangi Re). In 2022, he might have as many as six theatrical releases, believe it or not. He’ll begin his account this year with the historical Prithviraj. Then, he’ll be back in cinemas, as Bachchan Pandey. In the Raksha Bandhan and Independence Day week, he’ll make viewers’ eyes moist with Aanand L Rai’s Raksha Bandhan and shake your conscience yet again with OMG Oh My God 2. Meanwhile, on Diwali, he’ll present his ambitious venture, Ram Setu. That’s not all. If all goes well, he’ll, in between, also bring Cinderella (tentative title) to the cinemas.
5. AJAY DEVGN
2022 releases: RRR, Gangubai Kathiawadi, Runway 34, Maidaan, Thank God
2023 releases: Singham 3, Golmaal Five (expected), Chanakya (expected), Kaithi remake (expected), Raid 2
Ajay Devgn too will create a record as he might have as many as 5 releases. He would add to the star power with his supporting role in S S Rajamouli’s ambition venture, RRR. In Gangubai Kathiawadi, his supporting part is expected to be very promising. On Eid, his much awaited Runway 34 would hit cinemas, followed by the long-in-the-making Maidaan around a month later. Finally, he’ll tickle your funny bone in Thank God.
6. HRITHIK ROSHAN
2022 release: Vikram Vedha
2023 releases: Fighter, Krrish 4 (expected)
After the blockbuster War (2019), Hrithik Roshan would be back to storm cinemas with Vikram Vedha, co-starring Saif Ali Khan. Thanks to his presence and because he is releasing the same film in the same week as War, the trade is expecting huge box office numbers.
7. RANBIR KAPOOR
2022 releases: Shamshera, Brahmastra
2023 releases: Luv Ranjan's next, Animal
Ranbir Kapoor last had a release more than 3 ½ years ago (Sanju; 2018). The long wait shall end in March when he'll be back to entertain audiences with Shamshera. September 9 would see the release of the long-in-the-making sci-fi ‘modern mythology’ flick, Brahmastra.
8. RANVEER SINGH
2022 releases: Jayeshbhai Jordaar, Cirkus
2023 release: Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani
Ranveer Singh had a disappointing 2021 thanks to 83 but in 2022, he can bounce back. Jayeshbhai Jordaar, a Yash Raj Films venture, carries excellent reports and can surprise with its performance at the ticket window. In Cirkus, he’ll reunite with his Simmba (2018) director Rohit Shetty and it’s expected to set the box office on fire.
9. TIGER SHROFF
2022 releases: Heropanti 2, Ganapath – Part 1
2023 release: Rambo (expected)
The darling of the masses, Tiger Shroff will have his first ever Eid release with Heropanti 2. On Christmas, he’ll create a frenzy in cinemas with Ganapath – Part 1, a futuristic massy film.
10. AMITABH BACHCHAN
2022 releases: Goodbye, Uunchai, Brahmastra, Runway 34, Jhund
2023 releases: Nag Ashwin's futuristic film (Project K), The Intern remake
The veteran actor will have a busy 2022 with five releases. Jhund, stuck for a long time, will finally and hopefully release in cinemas. Goodbye is expected to be a crazy comedy. He’ll have a significant part in Ajay Devgn’s directorial, Runway 34, and in the sci-fi film, Brahmastra. Finally, he has teamed up with Sooraj Barjatya for the first time with Uunchai and as per inside reports, it can turn out to be Big B’s first solo Rs. 100 crore film!
11. PRABHAS
2022 releases: Radhe Shyam, Adipurush, Salaar
2023 releases: Nag Ashwin's futuristic film (Project K), Spirit
The pan-India star is expected to set new box office records in 2022. Radhe Shyam, one of the first biggies of 2021, will hit cinemas on January 14. He’ll play the role of Lord Ram in Adipurush, a film to watch out for. His film with KGF director Prashanth Neel, Salaar, is also expected to release this year.
12. SHAHID KAPOOR
2022 releases: Jersey, Ali Abbas Zafar's untitled next
2023 release: Bull
Shahid Kapoor’s Jersey failed to release in cinemas, as scheduled, on December 31, 2021. It’ll now soon see a release in cinemas in 2022 and from the trailers, it looks like a great emotional flick. This would be followed by an action packed thriller, directed by blockbuster director Ali Abbas Zafar.
13. VARUN DHAWAN
2022 releases: JugJugg Jeeyo, Bhediya
2023 releases: Ekkees (expected), Sanki (expected)
The last few years haven’t been great for Varun Dhawan, who at one point was the hit machine. 2022 shall give him a chance to get back in the top league. JugJugg Jeeyo looks like a complete family entertainer and can score at the box office. In Bhediya, he’ll thrill the audiences with his werewolf avatar.
14. SIDHARTH MALHOTRA
2022 releases: Mission Majnu, Thank God, Yodha
Sidharth Malhotra got his due, and how, in 2021 with Shershaah. It’ll prove beneficial for him in 2022 with the action thriller, Mission Majnu, his first release of the year. Thank God, co-starring Ajay Devgn, is a social entertainer and sounds promising. He’ll end 2022 with Yodha, a film to watch out for.
15. KARTIK AARYAN
2022 releases: Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, Sajid Nadiadwala's next, Freddy, Shehzada
2023 release: Captain India
After proving his worth with Dhamaka (2021), Kartik Aaryan will once again attempt to prove that he’s still one of the bankable stars in 2022, starting with the horror comedy, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2. This will be followed by a grand love story, produced by Sajid Nadiadwala. Shehzada, the remake of Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo (2020), is expected to be a sure-shot hit. Freddy, meanwhile, is expected to impress multiplex audiences.
16. JOHN ABRAHAM
2022 releases: Attack, Ek Villain Returns, Pathan
2023 release: Ayyappanum Koshiyum remake
John Abraham delivered two flops in 2021 in the form of Mumbai Saga and Satyameva Jayate 2. He'll open his account in 2022 with a bang with Attack, whose teaser has turned out to be a surprise. He'll then move on to Ek Villain Returns, wherein he teams up with Mohit Suri for the first time. Finally, he'll feature as the protagonist in the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer, Pathan.
17. ARJUN KAPOOR
2022 releases: Ek Villain Returns, Kuttey, The Ladykiller
2023 release: Ayyappanum Koshiyum remake
After wowing audiences in Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar in 2021, he'll hope to win their hearts once again in Ek Villain Returns and two hatke films, Kuttey and The Ladykiller.
18. AYUSHMANN KHURRANA
2022 releases: Anek, Doctor G, Action Hero
After a mind-blowing 2017, 2018 and 2019, the next two years were not impressive for Ayushmann Khurrana. In 2022, he’ll hope to change the tide. Anek will see him reunite with his Article 15 (2019) director Anubhav Sinha. Doctor G seems to be yet another risqué but clean entertainer. Action Hero promises to be the most hatke Ayushmann film ever.
19. RAJKUMMAR RAO
2022 releases: Badhaai Do, Bheed, Monica O My Darling, Hit - The First Case, Mr & Mrs Mahi
The newly married actor will have five releases in 2022. He’ll commence the year with an unusual love story, Badhaai Do. This will be followed by Anubhav Sinha’s hard-hitting fare, Bheed. He’ll pair up with his Roohi (2021) co-star Janhvi Kapoor in the cricket-based fare, Mr & Mrs Mahi, and with Sanya Malhotra in the South remake, Hit - The First Case. Lastly, he also has a Netflix film, Monica O My Darling, in his kitty.
20. VICKY KAUSHAL
2022 releases: Govinda Naam Mera, Laxman Utekar's untitled next
2023 releases: Sam Bahadur
The dashing and talented actor will be seen in his massiest role to date in Govinda Naam Mera. In Mimi director Laxman Utekar’s next, he’ll be seen opposite Sara Ali Khan.
21. ABHISHEK BACHCHAN
2022 releases: Dasvi, SSS7 (tentative title)
The talented actor turned into a digital actor as his films like Ludo (2020) and Bob Biswas (2021) straight away went on OTT. His next film, Dasvi, is expected to release in cinemas and as per insiders, this political comedy can be the dark horse of the year. SSS7 will bowl audiences over as it features Abhishek solo and reportedly, it is a one-shot film.
22. SAIF ALI KHAN
2022 releases: Adipurush, Vikram Vedha, The Firefighter (tentative title; expected)
Saif Ali Khan's fun film, Bhoot Police, had a digital release but his upcoming movies like Adipurush and Vikram Vedha are expected to set the box office on fire. His third film, tentatively titled The Firefighter, might also make it this year.
23. EMRAAN HASHMI
2022 releases: Tiger 3, Harami, The Last Ride, Gangubai Kathiawadi
2023 release: Selfiee
Emraan Hashmi will be the baddie in Tiger 3 and the news of him bagging this film broke the internet. Besides, he has two niche films up for release, the internationally acclaimed Harami and The Last Ride, co-starring Raashii Khanna. He will be seen in a dynamic role in Gangubai Kathiawadi too.
24. RITEISH DESHMUKH
2022 releases: Plan A Plan B (Netflix film), Kakuda, Visfot
Last seen pre-pandemic in Baaghi 3 (2020), Riteish Deshmukh will compensate for his long absence with three films in 2022. He’s expected to commence his 2022 account with a Netflix film, Plan A Plan B, followed by a theatrical release, Kakuda. He’ll then venture into the action thriller zone Visfot, which also marks the comeback of Fardeen Khan.
25. ANIL KAPOOR
2022 releases: Thar, JugJugg Jeeyo
2023 releases: Fighter, Animal
The ‘jhakaas’ actor, who didn’t have a release in 2021, will be entertaining audiences in two diverse films. While Thar, a Netflix film is reportedly an exciting thriller, JugJugg Jeeyo promises to be an entertainer for the whole family.
26. SIDDHANT CHATURVEDI
2022 releases: Gehraiyaan, Phone Bhoot, Yudhra, Kho Gaye Hum Kahan
The actor, who shot to fame with Gully Boy (2019), failed to impress in Bunty Aur Babli 2 (2021). However, the teaser of Gehraiyaan promises an intense, romantic experience. Another film that could mildly be in a similar zone is Kho Gaye Hum Kahan. Phone Bhoot seems to be comparatively light-hearted. As for Yudhra, it could be a film where it seems that he’ll play to the gallery.
27. ADITYA ROY KAPUR
2022 releases: Om: The Battle Within, Thadam remake
After impressing audiences in Malang and Ludo in 2020, the actor would be seen in his massiest avatar in Om: The Battle Within. He also bagged the Thadam remake, which is also expected to be a commercial fare.
28. SONU SOOD
2022 releases: Prithviraj, Kisaan, Fateh
The messiah of the downtrodden will storm cinemas thrice in 2022. He has a significant part in Akshay Kumar-starrer Prithviraj. In Raaj Shandilyaa’s Kisaan and the recently announced Fateh, he’ll be seen in the lead role.
29. SANJAY DUTT
2022 releases: Prithviraj, Shamshera, K.G.F: Chapter 2, Toolsidas Junior
The actor of the masses will be seen in both the period films of Yash Raj Films, Prithviraj and Shamshera. In the highly awaited K.G.F: Chapter 2, he’ll play the villain and his look has been loved. Lastly, he’ll be seen in Rajiv Kapoor’s last film, Toolsidas Junior.

2022 releases: Khuda Haafiz - Chapter II, IB 71
The last three films of the massy actor were released on digital. In 2022, he’ll hopefully be back to impressing audiences in cinemas. Khuda Haafiz - Chapter II will be his first release this year. He has turned producer and his first production, IB 71, directed by The Ghazi Attack (2017) director Sankalp Reddy, will also be out in 2022.

After becoming a household name in 2020 with Scam 1992, Pratik Gandhi is expected to impress the target niche audience in 2022. He has as many as four releases - Woh Ladki Hai Kahaan, co-starring Taapsee Pannu, Dedh Bigha Zameen, co-starring Khushali Kumar, Atithi Bhooto Bhava, co-starring Jackie Shroff and Sharmin Segal and an untitled relationship drama co-starring Vidya Balan, Ileana DCruz and Sendhil Ramamurthy.

Arjun Rampal can surprise as The Battle Of Bhima Koregaon might turn out to be a big grosser, due to its topic. In Mystery Of Tattoo, he teams up with Ameesha Patel and Daisy Shah while in Dhaakad, he’ll be seen alongside Kangana Ranaut. Lastly, he’ll be seen in the Netflix thriller, Penthouse.

Manoj Bajpayee’s co-star in Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari (2020), Diljit Dosanjh delivered a blockbuster in 2021 in the form of Honsla Rakh. In 2022, he’ll return to Hindi cinema with an untitled film directed by Ali Abbas Zafar. As per reports, it is set against the backdrop of the 1984 riots and will have a direct digital release.

The cute-looking actor with oodles of talent will continue with his great work in 2022, it seems. He possibly will commence 2022 with Love Hostel followed by Radhika Apte-starrer Forensic. In Mumbaikar, he’ll share screen space with Vijay Sethupathi. Recently, it came to light that he has bagged Gaslight, co-starring Sara Ali Khan and Chitrangda Singh.

He impressed everyone with his act in Shiddat and in 2022, he’ll be seen in the period political drama, Hurdang. This will be followed by his most bold act in Nakhrewali, in which he’ll be seen as a person who likes to crossdress. Lastly, he’ll feature in Janhvi Kapoor-starrer Mili.

2022 releases: Death On The Nile, Kandahar, Khufiya
2023 release: Arati Kadav’s untitled next
The actor will continue to juggle between Bollywood and international projects. His Bollywood release would be Khufiya, directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, and co-starring Tabu. It’ll be out on Netflix. As for Hollywood films, he’ll feature in crucial parts in Death On The Nile and Gerard Butler-starrer Kandahar.

2022 release: Blurr
He rocked the show in 2020 with Ghost Stories, Afsos and Unpaused, and in 2022, he’ll feature opposite Taapsee Pannu in her maiden production, Blurr.

He’ll be seen in two films, both directed by talented filmmakers. Abhi Toh Party Shuru Hui Hai, a long delayed film of Anubhav Sinha, might make it to cinemas in 2022. Madhur Bhandarkar’s film on the pandemic, India Lockdown, features Prateik in an important role.

2022 releases: Mumbaikar, Merry Christmas
The talented South actor will make his debut in Bollywood with Mumbaikar followed by Sriram Raghavan’s Merry Christmas, co-starring Katrina Kaif.

2022 releases: Hurdang, Darlings
After a string of digital releases, Vijay Varma would hopefully have theatrical releases in 2022. Hurdang should release first followed by Darlings, which features Alia Bhatt as an actor and producer.

2022 releases: Suswagatam Khushamadeed, Fukrey 3
He’ll get back in the Fukrey avatar as the third part is expected to roll soon. He’ll also be sporting a six-pack in Suswagatam Khushamadeed, co-starring Isabelle Kaif.
EXCEPTION
Only Farhan Akhtar is one prominent actor who won’t have a film release in 2022. He’ll be busy directing Jee Le Zaraa, which features an enviable cast, comprising Alia Bhatt, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Katrina Kaif. However, he’ll be seen showing off his acting skills, that too in the Marvel web series, Ms Marvel.
