At the most, the name of Ramsays come up whenever we think of horror in Bollywood. But amidst this scenario, there have been some high-quality horror films every now and then. One among them is the recently released Shaitaan.

Raaz (2002):

Directed by Vikram Bhatt, Raaz is a supernatural horror film starring Bipasha Basu, Dino Morea and Malini Sharma. The film revolves around a newly married couple who move into a haunted mansion, and it became a commercial success due to its eerie atmosphere and memorable music. In fact, both the movie and its songs are still remembered more than two decades later.

Bhoot (2003):

Directed by Ram Gopal Varma, Bhoot is a psychological horror film starring Ajay Devgn, Urmila Matondkar, and Rekha. The film follows a couple who move into a haunted apartment, and it's known for its intense atmosphere and effective scares. Bhoot is not only considered one of RGV’s best films but also one of the best horror films to have come from Bollywood.

1920 (2008):

Now, this was a surprise success at the box office. Directed by Vikram Bhatt, 1920 is a period horror film set in the year 1920. Starring Rajneesh Duggal and Adah Sharma, the film follows a married couple who encounter supernatural occurrences in a haunted mansion. It's praised for its chilling atmosphere and gripping storyline.

13B (2009):

Directed by Vikram Kumar, 13B is a psychological horror thriller starring R. Madhavan and Neetu Chandra. The film revolves around a family that moves into a new apartment, only to discover that their lives are being controlled by a supernatural force through their television set. 13B received critical acclaim for its intriguing storyline and effective scares. Just like Bhoot, this one is also considered on of the best horror films to have come out of India.

Shaitaan (2024):

Ajay Devgn and R Madhavan have played the lead in two of the finest horror films from India – Bhoot and 13B. Co-incidentally, they both have come together for Vikas Bah’s Shaitaan. The film has been well received by the audience and critics alike, making it a success at the box office. Also starring Janki Bodiwala and Jyothika, the movie is the official Hindi remake of the Gujarati film Vash.
