After gaining popularity with the TV show Pavitra Rishta, Sushant Singh Rajput made a successful debut with Kai Po Che!

Sushant Singh Rajput started off with television through the show Pavitra Rishta on Zee TV. He hit the bullseye straight away as the serial became a hit. He then went onto make his big Bollywood debut with Abhishek Kapoor’s Kai Po Che! in 2013, which also starred Rajkummar Rao and Amit Sadh. The film completed 11 years yesterday.

Hence, it also marks the 11th anniversary of the late Sushant Singh Rajput’s film debut. Following Kai Po Che!, he went onto provide fine acts in a number of films. On this occasion, here’s looking back at his 5 best performances (in order of release dates).

Kai Po Che! (2013)

In this drama, Sushant portrayed Ishaan Bhatt, a passionate and determined young man with dreams of opening a cricket academy. His performance was lauded for its authenticity and emotional depth, earning him widespread acclaim. Kai Po Che! is also remembered for the bond of onscreen friendship between Sushant, Rajkummar Rao and Amit Sadh amidst the backdrop of tragic events in Gujarat.

M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story (2016)

In this biographical film, Sushant depicted the journey of the legendary two-time World Cup winning cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. His portrayal of Dhoni received immense praise for its accuracy and sincerity, solidifying his status as a versatile actor. Sushant’s hard work in order to get into the skin of Dhoni was also well appreciated.

Kedarnath (2018)

Sushant essayed the role of Mansoor Khan, a humble and compassionate porter who falls in love amidst the tragic backdrop of the 2013 Uttarakhand floods. His performance showcased his versatility and garnered critical acclaim. Through Kedarnath, Sushant once again joined hands with Abhishek Kapoor. The actor’s pair with Sara Ali Khan, who made her debut with this film, was also liked by the audience.

Chhichhore (2019)

Sushant played Anirudh ‘Anni’ Pathak, a middle-aged father who reconnects with his college friends to support his son, who tried to end his life through suicide. His performance in this heartwarming comedy-drama was lauded for its relatability and emotional depth. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Chhichhore provided a heartwarming message of positivity for students caught in the web of competition in studies.

Sonchiriya (2019)

In this gritty drama set in the Chambal ravines, Sushant portrayed Lakhna, a conflicted dacoit grappling with morality and survival. His portrayal was hailed for its intensity, complexity, and nuanced portrayal of the character’s inner turmoil. Directed by Abhishek Choubey, Sonchiriya was a rare movie to receive unanimously positive response from a large number of critics.
