Veteran actress Saira Banu penned a special note for legendary actor Dev Anand on his 100th birth anniversary. She shared some heartwarming anecdotes from her childhood and her work with the legendary star.
In her note, Banu wrote that her mother, actress Naseem Banu, was offered roles in Dev Anand's films CID (1955) and Kaala Pani (1958), but she had to decline due to prior commitments. However, Banu said that her family knew Dev Anand as an "effervescent and friendly guy" who loved them all.
Banu also shared a funny anecdote about how Dev Anand was shy and withdrawn around foreigners. She recalled that while filming for the film Pyar Mohabbat, Dev Anand was so nervous about being around the foreign tourists on the ship that he refused to start shooting on the first day. Banu said that she and director Shankar Mukerji had to intervene and convince Dev Anand to get out of his cabin and start working.
Banu also revealed that she was offered the role of Rosie in the classic film Guide (1965), but she had to decline because she was committed to the film Habba Khatoon. However, she said that she is happy that she declined the role because she feels she would have been too young to do it.
Banu ended her note by promising to share another funny incident about Dev Anand the next day.
