In a career spanning close to 150 films over 45 years, 67 year old veteran actor Vinod Khanna has adopted quite a few different looks. No wonder, he was in mood for some experimentation when it came to his latest outing Koyelaanchal as well. With filmmaker Asshu Trikha detailing out the character sketch of a ‘Coal Mafia King’ to him, the actor was doubly excited to adopt an altogether different look for the film.
“The film is set in Jharkhand and this is the first time ever that Khanna saab is playing a character based out of that land. Moreover, it is a very substantial role, especially when compared to his recent films like Dabangg 2, Ramaiya Vastavaiya or Players. This time around he is the central antagonist and is a driving force of the film. He just wanted to get it all perfect and wanted to start with the look,” informs a source.
While Asshu had a preliminary conversation with Vinod Khanna around the film and characterization, he expected to meet him in person and work on his look. However, he was in for a pleasant surprise when within just a few days of their call, he received a few pictures of his on WhatsApp.
“Mr. Khanna actually got his team of stylists together and along with rest of the technical crew, he got his photo-shoot done at his own residence,” says Asshu, “Since I was out of town, he just didn’t want to wait for me to return and sent me a series of pictures via WhatsApp. I was so thrilled because as the senior-most actor in the film, he was setting a fantastic example.”
Asshu immediately shared his feedback post with the senior actor got some more modifications done to the look and only relented once everything was finalized.
“Most of it was covered over phone itself and whatever little nuances had to be added, we did that in a jiffy one we met,” says Aashu, “However I was amazed with the level of dedication, commitment and excitement shown by him. For someone who has been around for over four decades, he still carries so much enthusiasm to do things on his own. I am fortunate to have actually started my career with him in 2002 with Deewaanapan (where Arjun Rampal was the main lead). To reconnect with him again after so long has been a pleasure by all means.”
