Padma Shri Udit Narayan was conferred the inaugural Mohammed Rafi Award at a musical evening arranged by the Rafi Foundation in Mumbai on January 22.
While accepting the award, the singer recounted his first recording for the film Unees Bees, under composer Rajesh Roshan. "Rafisaab has been my inspiration and I trained my self singing Rafisaab songs and listening to them on the village radio set." Udit's live rendition of Papa kehte hai bada naam karega was the showstopper and had the audiences asking for more.
