Traffic Signal chosen as Case Study in College of Professional Sciences

Madhur Bhandarkars Traffic Signal continues to gain accolades even as it has completed 3 weeks at the theaters. The film has been chosen for a Case Study at Maharaja Ranjitsingh College of Professional Sciences, Indore. Titled DILEMMA OF AN NGO When The Signal Will Turn Green, the case study is based on the real life situations as shown in the movie Traffic Signal wherein the gap between reel life and real life is bridged. The basic objective of writing this case was to invite attention of the management fraternities towards socio-economic problems of India, says Prof. Harish B. Bapat, Prof. Vishal Soni and Prof. Vishal Khasgiwala, Members, Maharaja Ranjit Singh College of Professional Sciences, Indore. The case study is being attempted to motivate the management professionals to initiate thought process and to apply management tools and techniques for the benefit of the society at large. When quizzed further about the reason behind choosing Traffic Signal for their case study, Prof. Bapat said, We liked the way issues were raised in Mr. Madhurs film. It is simply fantastic since it talks about the social problems of India. We see beggars, sex workers, eunuchs etc. on street but the way Mr. Madhur brought it out on celluloid was so real life, thought provoking, yet entertaining. He also added that we talk about liberalization of economy, privatization and globalization but tend to ignore things at the grassroots. He emphasized on the fact that the need of the situation is to first eradicate social curbs. So how does the college plan to take the case study forward? We are presenting it to the students and the faculty here and then leaving it open for their interpretation and then coming up with their own analysis of the situation. As like any other issue, say the Kashmir issue, there could be multiple solutions. The same could hold good for the Dilemma Of An NGO too, he concludes. On contacted an elated Madhur Bhandarkar said, Its an honor to have your work recognized by the world of literary and management. I am happy that the film which talks about problems on the street has touched the educated section of the audience and raised questions amongst the intelligentsia. It would be good to see how the issue is interpreted and analyzed by the management students of the college!
