Tigmanshu-Govinda patch up, Showman will start rolling again in Jan 2009

en Bollywood News Tigmanshu-Govinda patch up, Showman will start rolling again in Jan 2009

More than 1000 single screen cinema theatres all over Maharashtra state have decided on an indefinite closure from October 17, 2003. This is a collective protest against the State Government's apathy towards their charter of demands, which includes a reduction in entertainment tax from 55% to 30% and electricity power consumption charges to be at par with those applicable to other industries. Also they demand an increase in levy of service tax of Rs. 5 per ticket from the present Rs 2. and exemption from obtaining a NOC by paying one percent of gross annual box office collections, for mandatory screening of the Indian News Review reel from the Film Division.

The closure was decided on May 16, 2003 but was postponed for 90 days with the State Government's assurance that they would address their grievances. Meanwhile multiplex theatres will not participate in the closure because they are exempted from entertainment tax.
