This will ‘shock’ you

Of late, a number of Hindi films have had characters that aren’t ‘straight’. Films like MANGO SOUFFLE, RULES, MARKET, OUT OF CONTROL, even KAL HO NAA HO have had one or more gay characters in the storyline of the film. Director Shrey Shrivastav, who’s just completed INSAAF THE JUSTICE and is about to start the desi version of CHARLIE’S ANGELS [titled KAINAAT], is all set to start a love story, not between a man and a woman, but between two women. It’s inspired from a real-life story, Shrey divulges, I’ve yet to cast two leading ladies for the roles. Another FIRE in the making? My film is different from Deepa Mehta’s film. In FIRE, the circumstances brought the two women [Shabana, Nandita] together, in my film it’s different. They choose to be with each other, he clarifies. He elaborates, It’s a love story between two girls and how a guy comes into their lives [he falls in love with one of them!]. That leads to jealousy and insecurities. The makers have signed Karan Nath to enact the male lead. Shrey is also undecided about the title of the film, whether to call it SHOCK or MEN NOT ALLOWED. Produced by Mohamed Fasih, the screenplay is penned by [late] Anant Balani, Bobby Khan and Shrey Shrivastav. It will roll in January 2004.
