A massive haveli set has been erected on Floor No. 4 at Film City, where writer-director Aneez Bazmee is in the midst of picturising the climax of DEEWANGEE. Bazmee is busy canning a crucial sequence on Ajay Devgan when we reach the venue. The film is at present 65% complete and the final 40-day schedule is currently in progress. After this schedule, except for one song, the entire shooting will be complete. When asked about the scene, Anees reveals, This is part of the film's climax. The haveli is located close to the sea and Ajay and Urmila take shelter in it. This statement makes us wonder whether Akshaye is enacting a negative role, chasing Ajay and Urmila in the film. But the director answers back that none of the three principal characters are negative. Says he, Ajay is a music director and Urmila's guru. Ajay, who works for Sky Audio Music, is trapped for the murder of its owner, Vijayendra Ghatge, while Akshaye Khanna plays Ajay's lawyer in the film. Two heroes and one heroine it ought to be a love triangle. Yes, it is. Both Ajay and Akshaye are passionate when it comes to Urmila, the writer-director states. The film was announced quite some time back. But we commenced the shooting only last year (in August), producer Nitin Manmohan clarifies, adding, At the moment, we are in the last phase of shooting, which means that the film has taken a normal time to make. Like it happens with all big films. Earlier Anil Kapoor and later Sanjay Dutt were signed to play the role that Akshaye is portraying currently. Why so many replacements? The combination dates posed a problem. Even Karisma's dates were not matching, that's how Urmila stepped in, Nitin justifies. But Akshaye is unaware that he wasn't the first choice for the role. Is that so? I was not aware of it, he tells us. Perhaps the makers signed Akshaye after DIL CHAHTA HAI. Actually, we signed him before D.C.H. released, Anees states, adding, He's an amazing actor and also suits the role to the T. When asked about the project, Akshaye says that the script is its main asset. That's what appealed to me when I heard the narration. It has several twists and turns in the plot throughout. It will surprise you all the while, the talented actor says, adding, The beauty of the film is that it is not what you think it is. It's something different altogether. Producer Nitin Manmohan is aiming to release the film in August or Dassera.
