On Sunday the 17th December, there was a shooting of Pepsi ad in Makansar village near Vankaner town in Gujarat. The actual site of shooting was the meter-gauge railway station of Makansar, which was renamed as Ramgarh for shooting. Vankaner is a former princely town of Saurashtra-Gujarat on Ahmedabad-Rajkot road near Rajkot. Vankaner has excellent locales, where lots of film shootings (Like one of Panah featuring Pallavi Joshi and Pran) had happened before. On Sunday, the Police and Rapid Action Force men were high on duty, as thousands of villagers and Shahrukh fans had gathered to see glimpse of stars and shooting from early morning itself. Shahrukh was dressed in Blue Tshirt and loose jeans. He had black Samsonite briefcase in his hand and reached at 9 o clock morning to Ranjit Vilas palace where royal family members welcomed him to Vanakaner. The pre-shooting had started on earlier on 16th December, which was at Dhuva town, where steam engine driver Govindbhai Gadhvi drove an old style train named Gorakhpur express to 'Ramgarh' nee Makansar. A 40 strong staff of Ad agency 'Offspring' worked for 45 days and stayed at Morbi near Vankaner to can the final ad, which will be of 45 seconds duration. The concept of this ad was to recreate the famous train run of Sholay, which was attacked by the dacoits. On 16th and 17th Shahrukh Khan's duplicate was on white horse and train was running with it. Three dacoits were behind him on three horses. Shahrukh's duplicate jumped in the train from running horse. The real Shahrukh took part in the shoot on Sunday. Shahrukh was dressed in white shirt and black trousers, which started at 10 am in the morning. Shahrukh sat on white horse (specially brought for the ad from Bombay). He had two small Pepsi bottles in his hand, which were tied together with a string, and Shahrukh was making them play between fingers. With this act in progress, Shahrukh took a round on a horse. In second shot after giving signal, train was at the speed of 10 and Shahrukh ran and jumped into the train. In third shot Shahrukh jumped outside from the train. For this scene Shahrukh was tied with iron chains on back. Side-Cranes were used for this shot. The director of the ad was none other than Prahlad Kakkad. The steam engine was used was not in working condition from last one year, but was specially repaired and restored for this shooting. The repairs and restoration job took one and half month and railway officials worked hard on this task. As theme was Sholay's, Mcmohan (Sambha) was also here for shooting. The Police cordon was very strict and no outsider, even press photographers could see shooting. Watch out for the ad to hit the circuit. (With inputs from our visitor Japan Pathak)
