The ‘Battle’ of Khans

The Idd week is crucial for the film industry. The week will witness the clash of two reputed banners Dharma Productions [KAL HO NAA HO] and F.K. Films [JANASHEEN] vying for audience attention. Coincidentally, the week will also witness the clash of as many as four Khans. While the father and son duo of Feroz and Fardeen Khan battle it out on the big screen, in real life the duo will combat Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan at the box-office, as KAL HO NAA HO opens exactly a day after JANASHEEN hits the theatres [JANASHEEN releases on Wednesday, K.H.N.H. on Thursday]. I’m nervous, Karan Johar tells me, But that’s the way I am, I get nervy as the release date draws closer. The director of KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI and K3G is supremely confident of his latest flick, directed by Nikhil Advani. It has shaped up wonderfully well, he adds. On the other hand, Fardeen Khan is glowing with happiness. And rightly so! The actor and his father, Feroz Khan, flagged off the advance booking of their current flick JANASHEEN at Santosh theatre [70mm], Hyderabad a few days back and the response was overwhelming. There was a scramble for tickets in advance itself. The buzz is pretty strong, Fardeen informs me. How is the latest F.K. product looking? Well made, fast-paced and very stylised. It’s a typical F.K. film. A thriller in the true sense. I’m confident, it’ll be well received, he smiles. Let’s hope the Idd week sets the cash registers jingling, with both the films emerging victorious at the b.o. The industry needs its quota of hits to keep going, right?
