Shakti Kapoor turns a power-hungry journo

In a first deal of its kind not seen since the heady days of the dot-com gold rush, has signed up Shahrukh, Hrithik and Sachin as brand ambassador. is planning a lavish launch of its service. The ad campaign, which includes the three stars, is being canned. is promoted by the same set of investors as Ways India (the financial infrastructure firm) based in Bombay. Hometrade has also retained Pricewaterhouse Coopers to design and execute the backend for the company. A 200-seat customer call center is in the works.

Speaking to the press, Mr. Mike Shah, Director, Hometrade confirmed the plans and said a formal announcement to the press is due any moment. The TV commercials are being shot in Australia but company sources refused to confirm it.

Hometrade is also looking for a CEO and is currently being run by the Board of Directors of the company. The company is believed to have received funding from a set of NRI investors as well as VC Funds, though the names of the investors could not be confirmed. The site already features the three stars on its homepage and features a proposed section called “Memorabilia”. The Memorabilia section, however, is not up yet.

The company would be offering on the site features sections on news, financial services (insurance, banking, real estate, credit cards), data and research (economy, industry and companies), markets (stocks, forex, commodities), investments (new issues, mutual funds, tax saving schemes, fixed income), and loans (auto, housing, consumer and educational).

Let us hope Hometrade really manages to rake in the moolah.
