Sameer Malkan, who has directed a number of biggies in the past, now opts for new faces in his new venture LIPS. Filmed entirely in America and produced by an Indian settled in the U.S., S.S. Khimani, LIPS revolves around three principal characters, Anuj [a popular face on Indian television], Maushumi [who has featured in a Bally Sagoo video] and Trilok Malik, an Indian settled in America. Sex and suspense is a volatile combo and Malkan tries to explore it in his new venture. But why new faces when he has worked with the likes of Ajay Devgan, Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan in the past? I shot the entire film in 35 days in N.Y. and surrounding areas and it wouldve been impossible for any busy actor to shell out bulk dates at a short notice. Also, the film has been made within a stipulated budget, so we had to opt for new faces, Malkan admits honestly. Malkan is now settled in Canada, but Bollywood continues to be close to his heart. My next film will be in English, revolving around seven characters -- three American and four Indian, he states. The post-production of LIPS is currently in progress in a Mumbai studio and the makers are looking at releasing the film in November this year.
