Santoshi to make a film on Shivaji?

Rajkumar Santoshi seems to be turning out as the busiest director in Bollywood. While he has to start work on AB Corp’s much talked about multistarrer Ranveer, he also has plans to work on period films like Mahabharat and Prithiviraj Samyukta . The latest buzz is that Santoshi will be making another period film on the life of the Maratha Emperor Shivaji to be produced by Smita Thackeray. Though several Marathi films and plays have been made on Shivaji, a Hindi film on the Maratha king hasn’t been made in many years. The last notable film made on Shivaji was Chhatrapati Shivaji starring Prithiviraj Kapoor made way back in 1952. One wonders whether the idea of the film was suggested by Smita Thackeray’s father-in-law and popular political figure Balasaheb Thackeray who is a dedicated follower of Shivaji. Also there is buzz that the Nana Patekar and Naseeruddin Shah are being considered to play the role of Shivaji’s opponent – the Mughal king Aurangzeb. As for the role of Shivaji himself, there is a strong possibility that Santoshi might rope in his favorite actor Ajay Devgan (who also plays the title role in Prithiviraj Samyukta). Santoshi, please confirm! Meanwhile the busy filmmaker has also committed a film for Keshu Ramsay (starring Big B and Devgan) and one for Balaji Films.
