They say 'When your time is good, your mistakes are taken as a joke. But when your time is bad even your jokes are noticed as mistakes'. Well, the victim of such a situation is none other than director Sanjay Gupta, who got booked under several non-bailable sections, when the media got an invite related to his movie Shootout At Wadala on a letterhead resembling that from the Police Commissioner's office. Sanjay Gupta, immediately, had applied for anticipatory bail, which the Sessions Court rejected yesterday.
Following this Gupta moved the High Court, which stayed the Sessions Court order, and placed the matter for hearing on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Ashok Mundergi, who happens to be Gupta's counsel, defended his client stating that the said invite resembling a letterhead from the Police Commissioner was the idea of Balaji Films (who are the film's promoters) and that his client Gupta is innocent and is involved in the movie production. He also added that the said invite does not resemble a genuine note, and clearly states that it was for promotional purposes only.
Meanwhile, DCP Pratap Dighaokar of Zone 9 said that Gupta had told the police that he was the one responsible for sending out the invites, and no one other than him was to be blamed. Adding to this, Nandkumar Mehtar (Senior Inspector, Versova Police Station), where an FIR against Gupta was registered, said that they had opposed Gupta's plea, as his explanation for the same was not satisfactory and that he was questioned for two hours on Sunday, but, Gupta failed to cooperate.
