Sanjay-Ekta put Shootout… on hold for three years

en Bollywood News Sanjay-Ekta put Shootout… on hold for three years

There would be a while before third installment of Shootout series hits the screens. Even though Shootout at Wadala managed to earn some good moolah at the box office, there are no immediate plans to bring on next in the franchise. Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta is putting his time and energy into Mumbai Saga which he plans to turn into a franchise with a trilogy in the making.

"Mumbai Saga is a magnum opus in the making and now Gupta has turned further ambitious by converting it into a franchise. High drama and action would form an integral part of the enterprise and his creative team is now putting together content to warrant a trilogy. While first in the series would go on floors in early 2014, other two would follow as well. This means for now, another Shootout is on hold," informs a source.

This is surprising indeed, considering the fact that Shootout at Wadala has reaped dividends for both Balaji as well as Sanjay Gupta. While it is Balaji's biggest grosser of the year, it also announced a comeback for Sanjay Gupta after more than half a decade.

"But then we don't have a story yet for another Shootout," says Gupta, "With two great successes behind you, the pressure to deliver another hit is immense. We will be back but for now, it is Mumbai Saga trilogy that would keep me occupied for three years."

There was a gap of six years between Shootout at Lokhandwala and Shootout at Wadala.

"It would be much lesser gap though between Shootout at Wadala and next Shootout... ," quips Gupta, "Both Ekta and I are not the kind to blindly capitalize on a successful franchise. The right script is most important. Also, considering the fact that we took six years between the first and the second, three is still half the time."

When contacted, sources from Balaji said, "In any case we have our slate set for 2014 and 2015. There are 12 films already in the pipeline with six coming every year. For the next 'Shootout', we need a terrific script to justify the franchise. We are ready to wait till 2016 for that. There is no hurry."
