Guess there is still some time to go before Shahid Kapoor would be seen in the contemporary tale inspired from classic love story, Heer And Ranjha. Though there were murmurs around the film starting earlier this year, writer-director Sabbir Khan is still working on getting the script perfect before Shahid is summoned to report for the shoot.
"Everyone including producer Sajid Nadiadwala is waiting for Sabbir to finish his script before making any formal announcement around the film's schedule and the final cast. Though Shahid Kapoor is confirmed as playing the lead part of 'Ranjha', other details are yet to be finalised", informs a source closely attached to the film.
Sajid stands by Sabbir for Heer And RanjhaOne wonders though if there ever was a possibility of the film going on floors sooner than later since other than Mausam, Shahid is currently not occupied with shooting of any other film.
"The dependency is currently on Sabbir actually", continues the source, "His debut film Kambakkht Ishq (Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor) had done well commercially but critically it was panned. There were quite a few brickbats that came his way from many directions. Sabbir took this to heart and this time around he wants to make a film which is critically as well as commercially successful."
Since Sajid Nadiadwala had given a go ahead to Sabbir quite some time back for Heer And Ranjha, one would have expected him to be a tad impatient. However, he too is standing by his director.
"Sabbir wants to be doubly careful after Kambakkht Ishq. He is taking Heer And Ranjha very carefully as he wants to prove a point. I have left it to Sabbir to finish the script and inform me once done. I am fine waiting for him as long as he can get something fantastic in place for the film. I am sure he will", says Sajid who is also neck deep into pre-production of his other major films - Housefull 2 (Sajid Khan) and Kick (Shirish Kunder).
He confirms that Shahid Kapoor would be playing the male protagonist in Heer And Ranjha. "Yes, he is definitely on. Hopefully around November/December, we should be bringing the film on floors", he says.
Till then, this Ranjha will have to wait for his Heer!
