Ronit Roy gives up drinking for Student Of The Year

Bollywood News

That Rishi Kapoor plays a gay dean who's attracted to the sports coach in Karan Johar's Student Of The Year, is a story we broke some months ago. What comes as surprise is Ronit's dedication to getting the part of the lust-object dead right.

Ronit has given up drinking completely to get into perfect shape for a sequence shot in Thailand earlier this month where Rishi's character was to ogle at Ronit. The sequence was shot as part of the leading man Varun Dhawan's elder brother's wedding in Koh Samui.

Interestingly, Varun Dhawan's real-life brother Rohit got married in February. Playing a guy whose elder bro gets married made Varun quite nostalgic.

When contacted Ronit seemed shy of discussing the sequence.

"Yes, it was a scene where I, the sports coach, play volleyball with my students on the beach in Koh Samui while Chintuji's character ogles at me. It was very important for me to have an ogle-worthy physique. But while the students are bare-bodied I have a baniyan (vest) on," says Ronit.

However, Ronit insists that the off-drinks policy for Student Of The Year was not only dictated by the ogle-quotient required of his physique.

Says Ronit, "I play a sports coach and I am constantly with people younger and fitter than me like Varun Dhawan and Siddharth Malhotra, etc. So it was important for me to look my fittest. Also, since I was playing a teacher it seemed immoral to drink on the job."
