Rohit Vaid gets set to direct Dhyan Chand

Bollywood News

After Omung Kumar it is time for another debutant director Rohit Vaid to take on the enormous responsibility of putting on celluloid the life of an eminent sportsperson. The bio-pic on the distinguished hockey player Dhyan Chand, long on the anvil, is now ready to take off with Rohit Vaid directing the project.

Rohit who has 23 years of experience directing television software and 6 years as an ad filmmaker, has nurtured the dream of directing a film on Dhyan Chand for years.

Ila Bedi, the grand-daughter of the Urdu-Hindi litterateur Rajinder Singh Bedi and daughter of the hit director of the 1970s Narinder Bedi, has scripted the Dhyan Chand bio-pic for Rohit Vaid.

Now that Karan Johar and Pooja Shetty are co-producing the project Rohit's wait finally ends.

Says Rohit, "I've been working on this project since 2008. Finally the project seems to be on the way. I intend to make a damned bloody good film."

The casting is yet to be decided. Says Rohit, "We need a really good actor who will approach the bio-pic with the dedication and commitment is deserves. After all, we are talking about Dhyan Chand. Until the time he wielded the stick he made sure the Britishers didn't have the guts to send a team to play in the Olympics or any other tournament for fear of Dhyan Chand trouncing them. We need a really dedicated and brilliant actor to play this part."

Rohit has good things to say about Shimit Amin's Chak De, the only significant hockey film. "I like the film. I watch it every now and then. I re-visit scenes; have them downloaded from I-tunes. I love films with the patriotic fervour, about impossible victories, under-dogs and a subdued jingoism."

He is also all praise for the other two recent notable sports bio-pics. "Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's Bhaag Milkha Bhaag would be a writer's nightmare, given that from a writer's point of view the legend's last race ended in the fourth position. One couldn't have ended the film like that. Making the Milkha bio-pic couldn't be easy. It did have some flab. But I love watching Farhan play Milkha. As for Mary Kom, it was a lovely lovely story."

Rohit intends to make a kickass film. "I am definitely going to work hard to do justice to Dhyan Chand. I want to tell a good story that would also serve an inspirational purpose."
