REVEALED Here’s why Salman Khan’s Tubelight will not release in Pakistan on Eid

While Salman Khan rules the box office on the special occasion of Eid every year, the Pakistani government has decided against it this year. Salman Khan and his record successes during the occasion remains to be the talk of the town but this time around, the Pakistani government wants their local content to flourish during the occasion. Due to the same reason, they have decided against releasing Kabir Khan’s Tubelight on Eid this year.

REVEALED: Here’s why Salman Khan’s Tubelight will not release in Pakistan on Eid

Reportedly, the Pakistan Film Distributors Association and the Pakistan Film Producers Association are currently planning on stalling the release of Tubelight during Eidul Fitr. According to the Federal Ministry of Information, they had decided in 2010 that they will be not be allowing the release of any international film during the occasion of the Muslim Festival. Hence now, the Pakistani film guilds along with the makers of local content have decided to protest against the release of Tubelight.

Claiming that Eid is a Muslim festival, Sohail Khan, producer of the film Shor Sharaba (which is a Pakistani film releasing during the occasion this year), maintained that it is a fair decision considering that Indian films dominate the Pakistani box office almost the entire year. He also added that in case Tubelight isn’t banned he will not be releasing his film as a mark of protest. Besides his film, yet another Pakistani film releasing on Eid is Yalghaar.

Supporting the movement is also Pakistani filmmaker Altaf Hussain who has urged the entire Pakistani film fraternity to participate in the same. According to recent news reports, even a meeting was held with the technicians and other less prominent members from the fraternity to receive their support on the same. Pakistani actor Mustafa Qureshi too voiced a similar opinion adding that he always wanted to ban Indian films and content.

On the other hand, makers of Tubelight continue to make attempts of releasing their film in Pakistan. They are planning to urge the government to not give a No Objection Certificate to the film and will also be writing a letter to the Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Shariff on the matter.

Directed by Kabir Khan, the Salman Khan starrer Tubelight is a period drama set against the backdrop of the Sino-Indian war of the 60s and marks the debut of Chinese actress Zhu Zhu. The film is slated to release on June 25 this year.
