ANDAAZ was an acid test for all concerned. Akshay Kumar, who has been saddled with an 'action hero' image, had to prove his mettle as a 'romantic hero'. For Lara Dutta and Priyanka Chopra, the film was more of an acid test - they had to consolidate their position after tasting success [winning the titles] so early in their careers. But one person who desperately needed a hit was director Raj Kanwar, whose last few films met with a disastrous fate at the box-office, the biggest disappointment being the home-production AB KE BARAS. "Believe me, I was always confident of ANDAAZ," Kanwar tells me, "I knew the script and the casting were right this time around." But more than personal satisfaction, Kanwar is happy that the film has come as a respite for an industry that has been craving for a hit for a long time now. "Hits are much more important for the industry in general, than they are for any actor or technician. For, if the industry survives, we survive as well," he adds. Meanwhile, Kanwar is working on two scripts right now. A well-known producer will produce the first project, while the second will be produced by Kanwar himself. "I'm still working out the modalities," Kanwar reveals, "Wait for a week and a clearer picture will emerge."
