There is plenty of talk about Priyanka Chopra shifting base to Los Angeles, now that her performance in the American series Quantico has been so enthusiastically received.
However to read an excessive welcome into the American Dream through this one series, seems not only premature but foolhardy. Quantico works because it's the role of an athletic agile half-Indian American government recruit. And Priyanka Chopra plays the role with gusto, making us forget the embarrassing fiasco of her attempts to compete with Lady Gaga in the American pop scene.
A Bollywood filmmaker who has worked with Priyanka Chopra warns, "We've seen other flash-in-the-pan successes in the West. Barring Irrfan Khan, no Indian actor has a career in American cinema. If Priyanka plans to move between two continents, she must be warned that even A R Rahman left Bollywood confused by his long absences."
At the moment Priyanka has only two Bollywood projects Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Bajirao Mastani and Prakash Jha's Jai Gangaajal. In both she is said to have held her own.
However, for reasons best left undisclosed, she is unlikely to be seen playing the lead opposite any of the A-list superstars except Hrithik Roshan.
Says her filmmaker-friend, "Priyanka now threatens to become too big for Bollywood. At the same time Hollywood may not be the solution. So it's a tricky transitional time for Priyanka."
