After the success of Khichdi, another television sitcom Ghar Jamai is all set to be made into a feature film.
Ghar Jamai was a hit television sitcom on Zee TV which aired in 1997. It was about an unreasonable Punjabi father-in-law at loggerheads with his Tamil Ghar Jamai. Satish Shah played the father-in-law and R. Madhavan played his Tamil son-in-law.
Filmmaker and actor Ananth Mahadevan, who directed the sitcom, will be directing the film. Madhavan was really excited when Ananth spoke to him about making a film on Ghar Jamai and immediately agreed to do it. The rest of the cast is yet to be finalized.
The shooting will start in mid 2012 and will be shot in Toronto.
When contacted, Ananth Mahadevan said, "It's amazing to see the kind of impact Ghar Jamai had. Yes, we are making it into a feature film. And Maddy (Madhavan) is very excited about it. Ghar Jamai will be a comedy of manners and it will be something that has never been attempted before. We will push the envelope with this film and make it like a proper feature film, just like how Mr. Bean, Star Wars and Sex And the City were made into movies."
