India's leading consumer magazine group, Magna Publishing Company Limited, will soon be making inroads into feature film-making under the banner of its new sister concern, Magna Films. The publishers of top-ranking magazines like 'Stardust', 'Savvy', 'Society', 'Showtime', 'Health & Nutrition' and 'Society Interiors' will be launching three films this year, to be shot in 45-day start-to-finish schedules in India and abroad. The Chairman of the group, Nari Hira, has said that this initiative has been in the pipeline for a long time. The timing seems correct right now because of the changing scenario of the Hindi film industry. Today, sensible and path-breaking cinema has found acceptance even on the mainstream level, he says. Magna Films is already in discussions with some leading stars with regard to their projects. For corporate entities, this is the best time to venture into film production. We will be committed to making films that make both creative as well as better business sense, promises Hira. Incidentally, this is Magna's second flush with film-making after its immensely successful video film-making division, Hiba Films, which launched many notable faces like Urmila Matondkar and Aditya Pancholi amongst others. The first major venture of Magna Films is in the scripting stage and will be ready for casting soon. It will be formally launched in April 2003.
