Sanjay Dutt, alongwith his sisters Priya Dutt and Namrata Dutt held a press conference yesterday to announce that they have decided to give a new direction to the Nargis Dutt Memorial Charitable Trust (NDMCT), run by them, that has been serving the less fortunate patients for the past 30 years. This initiative will be to focus on paediatric cancer, platelet donation, palliative care and renal dialysis centre as well.
Priya Dutt said they realize that children often die due to lack of platelets and not of cancer, and something like paediatric cancer is curable. They don’t just provide medical treatment, but also follow up and try to make people aware of preventive measures.
Dr. Sanjeev Nichani (a British-Indian surgeon) who funds UK based NGO Healing Little Hearts said that every year, only 20,000 of the 80,000 needy children are operated on for heart ailments. And by the time it is the turn of the others, the hole in the heart becomes incurable. He praised the initiative saying that this collaboration of his NGO with NDMCT is a massive step in the right direction.
