After winning accolades for his performance in ROAD, Manoj Bajpai is now pinning hopes on Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi's PINJAR, being shot round-the-clock at a Mumbai studio. It's a film to watch, Bajpai tells me, I like the way Dr.-saab (that's how he refers to the director!) is handling the subject. He coaxes us to perform better. Even if Urmila (Manoj's co-star in the film) and I may be satisfied with the way we've done a shot, if Dr.-saab feels that there's scope to perform better, he tells us to go for another take. For Dr.-saab, the script takes precedence over everything else. But the expressions on Manoj's face undergo a radical change as you ask him if he's turned producer. There were reports in a section of the press that he had decided to produce low-budget/medium-budget films to start with. Not at all, he states, I never said I was turning producer. I've been around for four years now and have yet to establish myself as an actor. Meri dukaan mat bandh karwao yaar (laughs). Getting serious, he clarifies, All I said was that I believe in medium-budget films and I wouldn't mind experimenting with them some day. And the next thing that I'm given to understand is that I've turned producer. No way, not for another 10 years. Let me clarify before the producers press the panic button. That should set the record straight!
