M.F.Hussain passes away in London

Legendary artist Maqbool Fida Hussain (M.F.Hussain) passed away early this morning in Brompton Hospital in London after he suffered a heart attack. He was 95 years old.

M.F.Hussain came under severe criticism following his controversial paintings on Hindu goddesses and went on a self imposed exile from 2006 after receiving death threats and legal cases in his home country. He had vowed never to return to India.

Since then the renowned artist had been living in Dubai and London. In January, 2010, he was offered the citizenship of Qatar, which he accepted.

Forbes magazine called him the “Picasso of India” and in 1955, he was awarded the prestigious Padma Shree prize by the Government of India.
He also produced and directed Madhuri Dixit starrer Gaja Gamini and Meenaxi-Tale of 3 Cities.
