‘Kambakth Piracy’ – An evening to remember!

en Bollywood News ‘Kambakth Piracy’ – An evening to remember!

The Cinema People's Academy [C.P.A.] launched its anti-piracy initiative, 'Kambakth Piracy', with an entertainment extravaganza at the N.C.P.A., Mumbai on August 14. An honorary confluence of some of the most celebrated legends of the film industry, the C.P.A. has been established with the mission to promote 'good cinema' in India. Amongst the C.P.A. members present at the function were Smita Thackeray [Chairperson], Yash Chopra, Asha Parekh, Ramesh Sippy, Subhash Ghai, Manmohan Shetty, Pahlaj Nihalani, Sooraj R. Barjatya and Shailendra Singh, who voiced their views on the ill-effects of piracy and the immediate need to tackle it. The event was presented by C.P.A. along with Sahara Manoranjan, in association with Pril. The splendid evening was graced by Boney Kapoor and Sridevi, brothers Anil and Sanjay Kapoor, Rahul and Akshaye Khanna, Vivek Oberoi, Govinda, Aftab Shivdasani, Ramesh Taurani and Aditi Gowatrikar, to name a few. Aly Khan, Archana Puransingh, Yudhistir and Rakshanda Khan kept the audiences in good humour with their wit and spontaneity. The grand show opened with a breathtaking performance by the sultry Gauhar Khan, who had the audiences glued to the seats. Vasundhara Das raised the tempo of the evening with her upbeat rendition of 'It's The Time To Disco' from KAL HO NAA HO, as Sapna Mukherjee rendered the track 'Pyaar Do Pyaar Lo' from JANBAAZ. Later, Amisha Patel enthralled all present with the brilliantly choreographed 'Bardasht Nahin Kar Sakta' from HUMRAAZ. Intermingled with the song and dance performances were witty acts by Shekhar Suman, Jaspal Bhatti, Sajid Khan and an exceptional spoof on Indian cricket and its team members by Vikram Sathe, who had the audiences in splits. However, the evening definitely belonged to Salman Khan, who stole the show and left the audiences mesmerized with his stunning performance. Next in line was the suave and stylish Fardeen Khan, who, despite a leg injury, was sporting enough to shake a leg to his all-time hit 'Kambakth Ishq' from PYAAR TUNE KYA KIYA. Govinda, the actor turned politician, was taken by surprise as he was pulled on stage for an impromptu gig on the peppy track 'What Is Mobile Number' from HASEENA MAAN JAAYEGI. He closed with the key message that being a part of the industry and now the government, he would do everything he can to take up the issue. Adding to the magic of the night were sensational performances by the JOGGERS' PARK girl Perizaad Zorabian and the sensuous Kashmira Shah. And the grand finale featured Yana Gupta, the 'Babuji' girl, in a new avatar as she began her performance on the soft rhythms of 'Jiya Jale' from DIL SE and then progressed to her hit number 'Babuji' from DUM. 'Kambakth Piracy' saw the entire entertainment industry join the C.P.A. in one voice to express their solidarity in this fight against piracy. Using entertainment to celebrate the spirit of originality, entertainment icons appealed to viewers to choose the real over the fake.
