Jabbar Patel’s next film on Mahatma Phule

Filmmaker Jabbar Patels film Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar which came out in 2002 was highly appreciated by the audiences. The film starred talented actor Mammooty playing the role of Dr. Ambedkar. And now, Patels next venture will be a film based on the life of the famous social reformist, Mahatma Jyotirao Phule. Phule was a social reformist during the pre-independence period who fought for various issues, more importantly, the rights of women in society. He also started the first ever girls school in India, in Maharashtra state along with his wife. Jabbar Patel says that the casting and characterization for Phule is going to be difficult as only one old photograph of his is available in the records. The film will be mainstream but will also have his own style says Patel. He also plans to cast several big names in the film but does not want to reveal them now. Interestingly, The Government of Maharashtra has allotted his Rs. 2.5 crore to go make the film. The film is set between 1827 and 1890 and Patels research on the subject will hopefully be over by the end of October.
