Its no secret that Bollywood producers literally mint money. However, keeping a check on this money is the Income Tax Department. According to a survey done by the department, there are many defaulters when it comes to paying tax. A whopping amount of Rs. 2 crores is due from the film industry, in the form of TDS. On Tuesday, a survey was conducted by the I-T officers from the TDS section at Baweja Movies based in Lokhandwala. The recent John-Priyanka starrer Karam was produced by them. Another survey was conducted at Akbar Khans Mashreq Communications. They recently produced Taj Mahal and also produce TV serials. Apparently, Mashreq Communications was not filing its returns and will now have to cough up a hefty figure of Rs. 20 lakhs. The most successful TDS surveys in the recent past have been carried out on Venus Records, Spice Team Entertainment (makers of the movie Chocolate), Vishesh Films and Shreya Creations.
