I have seen a little of this film and I liked what I saw-Randeep Hooda

For all those who think Randeep Hooda is only Sushmita Sen's boyfriend, better watch out! He is all set to break away from the diva's shadow and imprint his identity as the actor. Trained under Naseeruddin Shah, Randeep had a small role in Meera Nair's Monsoon Wedding. From thereon, it has been quite a journey for him. Unleashing RGV's D - here's what Randeep has to say about it.

With only a couple of days left for the release of your solo debut D, what are you feeling?
I have done everything in my capacity for this film, now I am done with it. I can't guarantee what the reaction of the audiences would be, so I am as of now feeling detached with the film. I cannot do anything beyond what I have already done for the film.

Tell us about the overall of experience of acting in this film?
The experience was very good; Ram Gopal Varma is a very nice filmmaker. Vishram Sawant, the director of this film is a genius in himself. We share a great rapport; nevertheless, we had a lot of arguments on the sets. So there was a lot of hard work but I also had a lot of fun.

Post Monsoon Wedding, you vanished from the scene, how were you spotted?
I was doing a play called Kali Salwaar Safed Jhooth with Naseeruddin Shah, I still work with his Motley group. During that time one of Ramuji's assistant's saw me there and asked me to meet him, this was for the casting of Ab Tak Chappan. After meeting me Ramuji said 'leave Ab Tak Chappan and the other two films that I am making after that. In the third one I will cast you as the main antagonist,' the film was titled Ek, which was never made. Meanwhile, I was at home doing a little theatre, Ramuji took care of me financially very well. After two years, Vishram saw my pictures on his table and said that I would suit the character of D perfectly; this is how I bagged the film.

How does it feel to enact the role of one of the most feared don?
This is a fictitious story as far as I know. It's the brainchild of my director made with the help of the writer, and I have played it according to my understanding of it. I don't know what has it got to do with somebody living or dead.

What is Deshu's story?
This story is of a person who due to his circumstances makes a conscious decision of working for underworld, so he goes and joins the best gang. And then like we all work to grow in our career he also puts efforts to grow and reaches a certain level in his career. This is the story of my character in the film.

How do you think the film has shaped up?
This I think audiences will be able to judge better as I have lost objectivity towards my work and this film, I am so lost in it. I have seen a little bit of the film here and there while dubbing and I can tell you I liked what I saw.

Did you research Dawood's life for the role?
I did no research for this film. I imagined what Randeep Hooda would do had he been in Deshu's environment; I did not do anything beyond that.

What are your next projects?
After D, I am doing a movie called Shock directed by Jiji Philip and produced by Ramuji. I can't wait to finish it.

What are you doing in that movie?
Acting (laughs) what more can I tell you. Let it finish and then we will sit once again and discuss that.

Who would you like to show D first?
I would like to show this film first to my parents and Naseeruddin Shah.
