After months of persuasion by Salman Khan, Govinda has opted out of the Hindi remake of the Marathi film Shikshanachya Aaicha Gho which Salman is producing.
While Salman Khan reacted with characteristic sarcasm to Govinda's refusal, Govinda for the first time spoke about the matter saying, "I didn't like the subject of that film. It seemed an art film. I don't do art films. Audiences have certain expectations from me as an actor. They expect to be transported into a make believe world in my cinema. Films rooted to real life are not for me. I believe in the Rajinikanth school of entertainment which has no bearing on real life. I like doing films where you can hit your enemy from a foot's distance and still get him flying in the air."
Govinda is looking forward to the release of Shaad Ali's Kill Dil where he plays the villain.
He says he has never felt more relaxed and confident about any recent project. "It's a lot of factors happening together. The producers Yash Raj are extremely professional. The director Shaad Ali knows his job. Most importantly, 2014 seems like a terrific year for me. There is Kill Dil. Then there is Saif Ali Khan's film Happy Ending and finally my own production Abhinay Chakra. While I play the villain in the first I play the leading man in the third. In Happy Ending I've a very interesting cameo. So I've a wide variety of roles to choose from. Let's see how the year pans out."
In his 20-year career Govinda has never worked with Yash Raj before. "It's just a strange coincidence When they wanted to work with me I was doing 48-49 films and they didn't want an actor who worked so extensively. Finally we are working together after 20 years."
About playing the villain in Kill Dil, Govinda says, "I did play a negative role earlier in N Chandra's Shikari. But my actions were justified. But here in Kill Dil it's different kind of villainy"
After years Govinda feels content with his career. "I am excited about all the three films. In Happy Ending I've an extended cameo. I really enjoyed working with Saif's unit. They are a decent cultured people. I have decided to work only with reliable and decent producers. I am done with half-baked producers. I don't meet such producers anymore."
